Many greetings to all who are blessed by our Lord Jesus Christ.
Elyas from Russian Church came and gave us such a great words about praying.
May God provide him with his brimming provision and blessing for his ministry and family.
Praying is one of things God commands us to do.
First of all we need to focus on what Jesus taught us about how to pray.
In Matthew 6:9 ~ 13,
“Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”
1. Jesus said “Our Father, not My Father”
⁃ The Jew didn’t have idea of personal relationship with God, only the relationship between God and the Nation.
⁃ We can have personal relationship with God through salvation, which means Jesus Christ.
2. In verse 10, we can see that we’re waiting for him to return. (Your kingdom come.) What’s more, when we realize that actually the kingdom is inside us, this line means we need to be holy for “His kingdom” to come.
3. The meaning of “daily bread” is from God. God provides everything we need. However we often think what God gives us is not enough. The reason is we compare it to what this world has! But don’t forget that what God gives us is the most beautiful and perfectly prepared only for us.
4. In verse 12, we can find out that we must forgive others as we’re forgiven. Forgiveness is unconditional.
5. Needless to say, all human beings are tempted. Just because I’m a believer doesn’t mean you’re saved from being tempted. But we can resist temptation with faith in God.
Praying is the key to dealing with our flesh. Even Jesus always prayed whenever he faced problems.
1. We need to pray before choosing something.
⁃ In Luke 6:12 ~ 13, when Jesus chose disciples he continued in prayer all night to God.
⁃ There were many gifted and passionate people who were eager to follow Jesus. The important thing is Jesus cut off his mind of flesh and chose to pray.
⁃ We think “the more the better.” But God gives us exactly what we need. So let’s pray for discernment!
2. We need to remember that there’s a moment we should stop everything and pray.
⁃ In Matthew 26:36 ~ 39, before Jesus was arrested he went to Gethsemane and kept praying.
⁃ Don’t stop praying even in a stressful situation. If you were not in the habit of praying you would choose a way on your own.
Please our beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, truly hoping you not to forget that we can’t fulfill God’s will without praying.
You’re always welcome!
